Hank and My Honky Tonk Heroes is a nostalgic look at Hank Williams and his influence on country music performed by Obie Award-winning singer/actor Jason Petty who brings Hank’s music back to life paying tribute to artists such as Jimmie Rodgers, Roy Acuff, Ernest Tubb and The Carter Family. A must-see for all country music fans!
Jason Petty made a striking impression on New York’s Theatre District, performing for sold out crowds at the Little Shubert Theater. Audiences and critics alike were taken back by Petty’s amazing acting ability in his portrayal of Hank Williams. Petty earned rave reviews from all the major critics, including the New York Times, Variety and Rolling Stone. The NY Post sated it best, “At times it seems as if Petty is not just offering an impersonation of Williams, but channeling his ghost.” Another sign of recognition for Petty’s brilliant performance of Hank Williams was being honored with an Obie Award for “Outstanding Actor”.
This veteran actor/singer has performed in theatres across the United States, Canada and Europe. Petty began portraying the country music legend, Hank Williams, in 1996 at the world famous Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee. Since that time, Petty has appeared in national tours of “Lost Highway” and “Hank and My Honky Tonk Heroes”, a musical revue which Petty authored and stars in.
His acting ability has afforded Petty roles in film, television and theatre. His musicianship and song writing abilities have won him numerous performances on The Grand Ole Opry, and the honor of being invited to perform with the most distinguished songwriters and producers at the exclusive Blue Bird Cafe in Nashville.
This University of Tennessee graduate was born and raised in Manchester, TN. He spent his summers growing up on his grandmother’s farm in Primm Springs, TN. His father and grandmother influenced his early musical preferences. Jason’s earliest memories are of his grandmother, Fannie Mayberry, singing gospel songs around the farm while she worked, and his dad, Jim Petty, singing Hank Williams’ hit song “Hey Good Lookin'” to him when he was just a boy.
Petty began his career 50 miles from the farm at Nashville’s Opryland music park. While performing four shows a day, seven days a week, Petty caught the attention of the director of an upcoming musical at the Ryman Auditorium. That attention would eventually lead him straight to the stage, where he has been ever since.
